Stolen mail found inside U-Haul truck in Southwest Miami-Dade

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – Police said they found bags filled with what they believe is stolen mail inside a U-Haul truck that was left abandoned in Southwest Miami-Dade’s Richmond Heights neighborhood.

Miami-Dade Police believe the driver took off after crashing into a stop sign on Southwest 116th Avenue and 141st Street, Thursday morning.

Before the crash, a woman was caught on a Ring doorbell video, just a few streets away, along Monroe Street.

“The person drove up in a U-Haul truck, and she got really close to the door, and she just got out and stole the package from my doorstep,” said homeowner Matteo Andrade. “It was like 20 minutes after the package came.”

Andrade said a pair of shoes his mom ordered were inside the package the woman stole.

“She was just angry that someone took the package,” he said.

The box was later found discarded near the crash site with the shoes missing.

Police used K-9s to search for the thief Thursday morning and shut down the street as they searched.

“I heard the helicopters flying over constantly; it woke me up,” said area resident Doug Green.

Now, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service is working with Miami-Dade Police to recover any of the stolen mail and to capture whoever is responsible.

Another neighbor said this isn’t the first time packages have been stolen in the neighborhood.

She said she has seen teenagers on her own Ring camera stealing packages from her doorstep, too.

If you have any information on this theft, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
