Teenager arrested after armed robbery and carjacking in Northeast DC

A teenager was arrested for allegedly robbing a man and later riding away in his car in Northeast, D.C. on Wednesday.

On the evening of Oct. 9, a man was walking to a restaurant after he parked his car in the 1600 block of Benning Road when three people approached him, holding a handgun, officials said.

The group of people allegedly demanded property from the man, including his car keys. The man then listened and the group drove away in his car, officials said.

Later in the evening, D.C. officers saw the man’s stolen car in the 4900 block of Nannie Hellen Burroughs Avenue with people inside.

Police arrested one of the suspects — a teenager — and recovered two firearms, officials said.

The teenager was charged withArmed Robbery (Gun), Theft One (Stolen Auto), Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Possession of Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, officials said.

Police ask anyone who has information about the incident to call them at 202-727-9099. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible, officials said.
