3-year-old Wisconsin Dells boy missing, mother and man charged with neglect

A 3-year-old boy from Wisconsin Dells has been missing in Manitowoc County for  week, and his mother and a man have been charged in the case.

Elijah Vue was last seen on the 3900 block of Mishicot Road in Two Rivers about 8 a.m. Feb. 20. His mother, Katrina Baur, and Jesse Vang were arrested by the Two Rivers Police Department and charged with child neglect on Thursday, Feb. 22. An Amber alert for Elijah remains active.

Court records indicate Vang’s address being in the vicinity of where Vue was last seen. Baur, who was also charged with two counts of obstructing an officer, has an address in Wisconsin Dells. A preliminary hearing for Baur and Vang is on Mar. 7 after initial court appearances on Monday, Feb. 26.

Anyone who provides information leading to Elijah’s location and/or arrests of anyone else involved in his disappearance may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 through Manitowoc County Crime Stoppers, the Police Department said in social media posts on Sunday.

The Police Department has released nine Facebook posts relating to Elijah’s dissapearance since he was reported missing, including an announcement of Baur’s and Vang’s arrests. A request for a criminal complaint from Manitowoc County is awaiting response.

Elijah is of Hmong and white descent, approximately 3 feet tall, 45-55 pounds and has dark blonde hair, brown eye, and a birthmark on his left knee. He reportedly was last seen wearing gray pants, a long-sleeve dark shirt, and red and green “dinosaur” shoes, one of the posts said.

Baur and Vang are currently being held on bails of $15,000 and $20,000, the Police Department said.

“Since the moment Elijah was reported missing, our law enforcement from local, state and federal agencies, along with dedicated volunteers and community members, have been working tirelessly around the clock to search every inch of our city and beyond into the county,” Police Chief Ben Meinnert said at a press conference Wednesday.

Multiple law enforcement agencies and the Wisconsin Army National Guard have assisted in the investigation in various capacities, including providing drones and dogs, as well as land and water searches. Officers have searched rivers and landfills, the department said in a post, adding that it “will leave no stone unturned.”

There is no indication of danger to the public, the department said.

Residents statewide are encouraged to check any locations in which a small child may hide, climb or fall, report any items on their property that do not belong to them, including a red plaid blanket that Elijah was reported to possibly have that is in his missing person photo, and look to at their property surveillance video from Feb. 12-20.

No active searches are ongoing in Wisconsin Dells, according to Wisconsin Dells Police Department chief Nicholas Brinker. He added that his department has been helping investigating agencies in Manitowoc County with interviews and other investigative resources. The Lake Delton Police Department and Sauk County Sheriff’s Office have not received any leads regarding the case. A request for information from Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has not been returned.
