ANNISTON, Ala. (WBMA) — The Army Criminal Investigation Division is offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of nearly 100 pistols that went missing from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) in Anniston.
The Southern Field Office was notified on May 10th, that 98 1911A1 pistols were reported missing between September of 2019 to March of 2022.
A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for credible information that leads to the arrest or conviction of the person, or persons, responsible for the theft.
If you have any information that can help locate the guns or the person(s) responsible, you are asked to call the Army CID Southern Field Office at 706-709-0738 or report the tip online. You can remain anonymous.

The information was confirmed by ABC 33/40 on July 9th.
However, we have been reaching out several times by phone and email to the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division since the beginning of June. ABC 33/40 had requested additional information about the missing guns, however at the time of publish, has not received an answer to those questions.
Our questions sent on June 5, 2024:
- Are you [Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division] investigating about 100 pistols that reportedly went missing?
- What is being done to investigate this further?
- Were these weapons secure?
- When were the missing firearms first noticed?
- When did the investigation start?
- Have any employees been let go due to the ongoing investigation?
- What measures are in place to prevent this from happening, and what measures will be taken in the future?
- Have the missing guns been located or able to be traced?
The following statement was provided to ABC 33/40 on July 9th from a Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division Spokesperson:
The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division has been notified of a significant number of 1911A1 pistols reported missing from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) located in Anniston, Alabama, between September 2019 to March 2022. Army CID is actively seeking any information relevant to the missing pistols and is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to their recovery, and/or for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any individuals criminally responsible.
