Chapel Hill Police Locate 34-Year-Old Reported as Missing

UPDATE: Chapel Hill Police issued an alert at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday saying Samuel Bumpass was safely located.


The Chapel Hill Police Department is turning to the broader community for help in finding a missing person.

A release on Wednesday said Samuel Bumpass, a 34-year-old who lives in Chapel Hill, has not been located since May 25. Police said he was last seen around 10:30 a.m. in the area of Weaver Dairy Road and Banks Drive, which is the Timberlyne Village shopping mall. Chapel Hill Police added that Bumpass is not believed to be in any danger.

Wednesday’s alert did not include a recent photo of Bumpass — but police described him as a Black male with short hair, who stands around 5-foot-9 and weighs around 150 pounds. When last seen in May, he was wearing a long-sleeved black shirt with blue jeans.

Police said anyone with information of Bumpass’ whereabouts and wellbeing is encouraged to call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 during business hours.
