City police identify man found dead in trash can

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department has identified the body found in a garbage can on Loveless Avenue Saturday night as Malcolm Myers, 31, who was reported missing about April 10.

Youngstown police responded to the 500 block of Loveless Avenue on the East Side regarding a body left in a trash can. The body then was transferred to the forensic pathologist in Cuyahoga County for examination.

The police department is not revealing the method used to identify Myers, and the police department also is not releasing the cause of death, according to a police department news release.

Individuals who were doing home repair work noticed a bad odor coming from the garbage can and investigated, finding the body, police said.

The Youngstown Police Department in late April asked for the public’s help in locating Myers, saying he lived on the South Side and his car was found on Cleveland Street with its license plates ripped off.

The family was offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Myers’ whereabouts, according to a flyer that also indicated that Myers’ family suspected foul play. The family held a prayer vigil last month at Greater Friendship Baptist Church on Lakewood Avenue in Youngstown.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE or 330-742-8911.

A monetary reward is available for information leading to prosecution or arrest. Tips can be left anonymously.
