ABERDEEN, MD – A grandfather from Aberdeen is overjoyed after winning a $50,000 top prize in the Bonus Match 5 game, a favorite of his.
This dedicated player has a daily routine that begins with breakfast before he heads to one of his preferred Lottery retailers. On August 15, he visited Klein’s ShopRite in Aberdeen, where he purchased a $2 quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket among other games. That evening, he checked his tickets on the Lottery’s website and was thrilled to discover matching numbers.
“I knew it was a winner,” the excited grandfather said with a smile. “But, I took it back to the store the next day to have them take a look, too.”
The cashier confirmed that he had matched five numbers, securing the top prize in the August 15 drawing. “She looked at me and told me to go to Baltimore to claim it,” he recalled.
The Harford County resident shared the great news with his family, who assisted him in the prize-claiming process. One of his daughters accompanied him to Lottery headquarters this week.
“We definitely went over the winning numbers to make sure it was a winner,” she said. “He was right, and here we are.”
While the loyal player has no immediate plans for his newfound fortune, he intends to continue his daily Lottery routine.
Klein’s ShopRite, located at 949 Beards Hill Road in Aberdeen, is also celebrating, as it will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket. So far in 2024, the Lottery has sold 27 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 tickets.
