Police in South Carolina are helping in a search for a missing Tennessee man who may have come in contact with an escaped inmate, officials said Tuesday.The Clemson Police Department confirmed it is assisting in the search for Victor Birchfield, 61, of Carter County, Tennessee.According to local reports, Birchfield was last seen on June 19 and was believed to be traveling in a silver 2003 Toyota.Clemson police confirm Birchfield’s vehicle was captured on Clemson’s license plate camera system, and he was last seen driving toward Greenville.Birchfield’s disappearance coincides with the escape of 43-year-old Billy Reed Fletcher from the Carter County Detention Center in Tennessee reported on June 20.The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division sent out an alert Sunday about Fletcher, saying was spotted on June 24 leaving the Walmart on White Horse Road in Greenville County.SLED released new photos of Fletcher on Tuesday. Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley released this statement Monday:”We are continuing to investigate in conjunction with other local and state agencies as well as authorities in other states. We believe that at some point following the escape of Fletcher that he came into contact with Mr. Birchfield.”
