Reward for information on missing San Antonio girl Lina Khil increases to $250,000

A local organization is holding on to prayers in hope of finding missing San Antonio girl Lina Sadar Khil, who was last seen in her apartment playground on December 20. The Islamic Center of San Antonio increased its reward for information leading to her return home to $250,000.

“Everyone please join us in praying for Lina’s safe return to her family,” the organization wrote on its Facebook post on Sunday, February 20.

In addition to the center, San Antonio Crime Stoppers said it will give a guaranteed $50,000 reward, for this case only, for information resulting in the arrest or indictment of a suspect accused of any involvement in Lina’s disappearance. Lina’s family are refugees from Afghanistan who arrived in San Antonio in 2019.

Lina was last seen at a playground at her family’s apartment complex on the 9400 block of Fredericksburg Road. She was wearing a red dress, black jacket, and black shoes. Her mother told police she left Lina playing at the playground for a short time in the early evening hours. When she returned, her daughter was gone. Police said other adults and children were around when her mother left.

The FBI’s Underwater Search and Evidence Response Team searched a creek at the 5700 block of Babcock Road on January 5 but weren’t able to find anything conclusive, according to a news release.

On February 13, a volunteer group came up empty when searching for Lina along a San Antonio greenbelt. Nonprofit the Eagles Flight Advocacy and Outreach said it was a “bittersweet ending” in the search.

San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus tweeted Saturday the department was still focused on finding Lina.

“There’s been no pause in our efforts,” McManus tweeted. “SAPD continues to work with the FBI to find Lina Sardar Khil who went missing on Dec 20. The investigation is ongoing. Pls (please) report any info no matter how insignificant you may think it is. Call SAPD Missing Persons Section on 210 207-7660.”
