Reward offered for missing wedding ring last seen in Fall River store

A woman lost her wedding ring at a popular coat store in Fall River, and now the family is asking the public for help finding it with some incentive.

Niki Fontaine said it was the week before Christmas when her aunt Nancy was out shopping at the Fall River Burlington Coat Factory looking for last-minute gifts.

Nancy lives in Tennessee but was in town with family for her father’s funeral.

“She tried on a black pair of gloves. About an hour after she left, she realized her ring was gone,” Fontaine said.

It wasn’t just any ordinary ring. It was Nancy’s wedding ring that she wore for more than 30 years. Somehow it slipped off her finger, convinced it came off in that pair of gloves.

Fontaine said they checked with the store, contacted police, local pawn shops, and posted to social media, but still, the ring hasn’t turned up.

Now she’s offering a $400 reward for it, no questions asked.

“It has three inset diamonds. It’s a very small band, probably a size 6. It’s gold,” Fontaine said. “The ring — they’re not going to get that much from a pawn shop but it’s very sentimental because my uncle and my father were deployed in Okinawa, Japan and he bought the ring for her there it’s been on her finger for over 30 years and she’s devastated.”

Fontaine thinks someone may have gotten the gloves as a Christmas gift and is hoping they will do the right thing and return it.

“Please, if you did ever receive a gift from Burlington or bought a gift — just ask that person to check it,” she said. “This is the most sentimental thing she has left in her life and I’m just hoping someone can find it.”
