Two off-duty firefighters saved a man’s life when he went into cardiac arrest while playing hockey last week.

Duxbury firefighter Scott Hill and Braintree firefighter Brian Oriola stepped in Wednesday night when they saw a player become unresponsive during an adult-league hockey game at Hobomock Arena, Duxbury Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Brian Monahan said in a post on Facebook.

During a game on May 15, a man from the other team became unresponsive and went into cardiac arrest, according to Monahan.

Hill and Oriola began performing CPR and revived the man with an automated external defibrillator, the post reads. The man was then taken to a local hospital.

“This successful outcome illustrates the importance of the American Heart Associations ‘Chain of Survival,’” Monahan wrote. “Immediate call to 911, immediate CPR, and use of an on-side AED all played a successful role in this case.”

Monahan praised Hill and Oriola for a “job well done.”
