Aaron Knowlton acted on instinct when his mother woke him up shortly before midnight on Thursday to tell him the neighbor’s house was on fire.
Knowlton, 21, has lived next to Torri Thomas and her grandmother, who he knows as Miss Sarah, for about 15 years in the Brentwood community on Blythe Island. He knows Miss Sarah is bedridden, so when he got outside he saw Torri and her 3-year-old son were already out of the house, he knew Miss Sarah was still inside.
