A new grant is allowing the city to provide new equipment for firefighters.
WEST HAVEN, Conn. — The West Haven Fire Department is taking new steps to make sure their firefighters and the public are safe.
A new grant is allowing the city to provide new equipment for firefighters.
The West Haven Center Fire District is now able to provide cardiac monitors and defibrillators to firefighters in addition to additional training. The goal is to help save lives.
A grant has been awarded to the fire department of more than $242,000.
The funding comes from the Assistance to Firefighter Grants through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The new cardiac monitors and equipment will be able to save lives of people in the community and also firefighters in an emergency.
Firefighters will be trained on the equipment in order to be able to use it on fire rescues and emergencies.
U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal said more money should be continually invested in our first responders.
“The kinds of equipment we see here, the trucks and the apparatuses that we have are in part of this federal program and we know that the federal funding is important because West Haven can’t do it by itself, no town or city can,” said Blumenthal.
Training is expected to begin in the near future for West Haven Center District Firefighters.
